2024 Motorized Sports Recap in Sawyer County

Sawyer County, Wisconsin

Happy 2025 everyone! I’m not sure what’s in store for us this year, but so far, this winter is twisting into a disappointment. Where is the snow? I’ll tell you where….. in the mountains. I visited my son in Colorado during December, and since then I’ve taken more of an interest in that area- especially now that I am familiar with some of the locations. I read a report from Steamboat Springs, a mountain community where my son spent the last six months doing his clinicals – and this ski resort area has a lot of snow. The report stated a visitor admitted to causing an avalanche by exploring an area that was closed off. In preparation for public use of the slopes, areas are roped off and patrols discharge small avalanches to stabilize the mountain’s snow base. Once they feel the slopes are safe, they open them to public use.

As I read that news report, I looked out my window across Nelson Lake – and the view was dismal. Only a few flecks of snow here and there, and my grass actually had a greenish tint too it! Wow, so far, its reminiscent of last year’s winter.

I swear, my Wildcat is whispering to me whenever I go into the garage. I would be going on the New Year’s ATV ride with the Richardsons on Saturday if I wasn’t going to the AWSC Winter Director’s meeting.

Anyhow, below is my article published in the Sawyer County Record today – a short recap of the 2024 year in our motorized sports world. I will see you all on the trail, by sled, or by buggy – soon!
