Here it is, the day before Thanksgiving 2024, and the temperatures have plummeted into the low to mid 20’s. A busy day filled with car service, errands, and real estate appointments – my travels took me all over Sawyer County and past many of our lakes.
Most of the folks I saw today grumbled about the cold, they shivered while complaining they are not ready for it. Obviously, I didn’t run into one snowmobiler or ice fisherman today, otherwise we would have been high fiving each other.
I could only smile whenever I drove by a lake today! noticed the telltale signs of making ice; the crusty, ragged edges of the new ice growing outward from each barren bay. The open water areas looked eerily calm and were slowly taking on a hazy, grayish cast as the bitter cold worked relentlessly on it.
Our forecast shows daytime highs between the high teens and low twenties, and nighttime temps hovering around 10ish degrees, for the next week or so. I hope it sticks around this time; we need some good ice on the lakes, and frozen trail beds as a base for a spectacular snowmobile season!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families, enjoy them now, life seems to be so short.
