Time for trail work!

It’s that time of year again – the busy ATV season is winding down a bit as clubs start preparing trails for the upcoming snowmobile season. Looks like our Sawyer County mascot, “Sawyer” is getting ready to hit the trails and do some hard work. Hope he can stay clean this time!

A few of our clubs in the southern part of Sawyer County had redecked 4 large bridges over the last month or so – an enormous amount of work!

Some of the trails in Seeley Hills were graded last month and are flat and ready for snow. Seeley Hills, and our entire county, are known for rocks. Endless rocks, as if the region was born on top of a rock pile. We can scrape away one layer, only to expose the endless layers underneath. If you are out riding, help out our groomers by rolling larger rocks off the trail when you see them.

I don’t know what happened to the trees this fall – a distinct lack of heavy storms and wind can’t be the cause of the random trees I’ve seen toppled over on the trails- maybe the lack of rain for a few months stressed them out? Someone mentioned the beavers have been hard at work on some of our trail systems, taking down trees on the trails.

A reminder that on November 15, 2024, the Tuscobia State Trail in Sawyer County, closes until December 15th for hunting season. Also, the ATV trails in the Flambeau River State Forest close on November 15th until May of next year.
