Registration of ATVs and UTVs in Wisconsin
Read the full details on ATV/UTV registration in Wisconsin here.
The preferred place to register your ATV or UTV is at the DNR’s GoWild site.
All ATVs and UTVs kept in Wisconsin must be registered with the WI DNR for use on public lands, trails, road routes, and frozen water.
2024-2025: fees are $30 for a 2-year ATV/UTV registration period that begins on July first and expires on Jun 30 of the second year. Each 2-year renewal period is $30.
The DNR will mail your 2 registration stickers – you can legally ride with your registration receipt until you receive your stickers. Place stickers on both sides of the machine, in a visible location forward of the driver’s position.
In addition to the registration stickers, the machine owner is to furnish a rear-mounted white license plate which displays the numbers provided by the DNR registration. Read more here.
RIDERS- you can get a warning or a ticket if: 1) Your registration stickers are not placed in a position forward of the driver. 2) If your rear plate is not visible because you don’t have one, or it’s obstructed from view, or too dirty to read.
