SE Sawyer County, Wisconsin

With much anticipation, the ATV Trails in the Flambeau River State Forest open to ATV use today, May 15, 2025, just in time for riding this coming weekend! The ATV trails within this forest area annually close to ATV use between November 15 and May 15. An excerpt from our 2025 Sawyer County Alliance map is shown above- the Flambeau Forest is light orange and includes trails near Oxbo, Trails 1, 36, and 25.
These are some of my favorite trails to ride – although now that I’m at the opposite end of our huge county, I seldom get all the way down there anymore.
Happy riding everyone and keep an eye on our Alliance Facebook page for updates – although Sawyer County hasn’t closed trails due to high fire danger, as of the date of this article, several surrounding counties have closed their trails.
Be careful out there if trails remain open during high fire warnings– make sure your spark arrestors are in place and working properly, don’t ride or park near grasses or brush, avoid riding during extremely dry and windy conditions, and don’t discard smoking materials carelessly. Keep your eyes open for any hint of smoke or fire when within forests.
You don’t want to be the rider who causes one of these devastating forest fires.
UPDATE May 16, 2025: I don’t know what the current fire level is right now, but our area just had a lot of storms roll through over the past 2 days-trails I’ve been on since are wet.
After this forest system opens, the only trail that remains closed is located in the Birchwood area: Trail 31 north of the Tuscobia Trail is closed until Memorial Day Weekend.
